Local anti cuts protest….

Like pretty much everywhere in Britain at the moment we have anti cuts demos locally. The government blame the Labour party, and the Labour party blame the government. The people blame the bankers!!

Unemployment is rising, prices of essential goods are rising, fuel prices are rising. We look forward to financial cuts in almost every way we can imagine. The next few years are going to be tough. The poorest look like they’ll be suffering the most. The elderly, the sick, the young, all are targets, yet the bankers who brought about the global recession are getting their mega bonuses, so all is fine and dandy after all.

The other day i stopped off at a small local protest. It was mainly concerned with proposed cuts to the Climate Change Unit. It’s odd that the council want to cut back on people who have not only reduced carbon emissions, but also saved us, the tax payers, money at the same time. They also work with local businesses and the poorer families to help them reduce the fuel they use. Again this cuts carbon emissions, and saves money. I’m sure there are plenty of people who were glad to have saved money, and so perhaps been able to afford to keep warm during our cold winter, a winter much colder than normal. Cutting a department that actually helps us save money is perhaps rather stupid, and is probably just being done for political reasons, and unfortunately, politics does not often follow common sense!

Anyway, here’s a few photos from the event outside a local council meeting..

Protesters with placards and banners.

A clear and simple message!

One of the speakers at the protest.

Some people went around the side of the building to make themselves heard outside the window where the meeting was being held.

This is more how i saw this photo in my mind when taking it.

Another strong black and white taken from outside the window the meeting was being held.

About PurpleT

Much of my photography is art and documentary. I try to capture a scene as i see it in my mind, whether that be black and white, colour, or somewhere in between. I try to make an interesting, and/or attractive image from what i see around me, not just what would be expected, but also subjects that would be seen boring, mundane, or ugly by many. But they all have an interest as art photography. I have also spent nearly twenty years working as a life model, then the human figure in art is very important to me, and is something i try to bring into my work at times.

That’s where i managed to get a bit more arty 🙂
I kept out of the way of the local press photographer, but after she’d gone i could roam around the group a bit more.
I’m glad you love the 5th 🙂 I think it’s the best from the evening, and although i had b&w in mind, i do really like the colour too. Years ago i pretty much only used b&w film, but digital made me take in colour, then convert the files (though i can now shoot b&w RAW files, unlike with my old camera) I now have a renewed interest in colour 🙂
