Free Needles!

A recent photowalk here in Derby took us back to one of my favourite places. It’s the same place as in three of my last five blog posts.

It’s a regular haunt of the local drug users and so it’s really not a pleasant place to wander around at times.
As long as you’re careful then there always seems to be something interesting to photograph, whether it be graffiti, the waste, all round dereliction, or like in these photos, the syringes.
You don’t ever have to set anything up, it’s just there in front of you to try and find the right view and lighting.

The filth that people exist in during their highs is remarkable, and when first seen is often quite shocking.

These two photos are just how i found them, not that i’d really want to be touching used syringes of course….

About PurpleT

Much of my photography is art and documentary. I try to capture a scene as i see it in my mind, whether that be black and white, colour, or somewhere in between. I try to make an interesting, and/or attractive image from what i see around me, not just what would be expected, but also subjects that would be seen boring, mundane, or ugly by many. But they all have an interest as art photography. I have also spent nearly twenty years working as a life model, then the human figure in art is very important to me, and is something i try to bring into my work at times.
