Trying something different on a murky day

Something i’ve been meaning to try out for quite awhile is moving the camera whilst making an exposure. I’ve seen some really nice images by people doing this. As we’re having some rather murky weather at the moment with heavy mist and fog, i decided to pop to the local woods and have a go.
I used one second exposures handheld and tipped the camera upwards during the exposure.

Although my main thought was to make monochrome images to match the dullness of the weather, i was also interested in trying to make something with colour. I eventually used split toning when processing the colour RAW images but also made monochrome versions.

The first two are colour ans the third is monochrome for comparison.

After practicing with some exposures i made this one as two people had gone past. There's a man in the centre and small white speck on the left of his arm is a woman. It would have been good to have her a little more obvious, but i think it still creates a slightly creepy effect.

In this one the woman has moved out of sight and the man is less obvious too, but i like the overall effect.

I like the effect in these and want to do more. I’d also like to use figures in some and maybe use flash to pick out details withing the movement.

About PurpleT

Much of my photography is art and documentary. I try to capture a scene as i see it in my mind, whether that be black and white, colour, or somewhere in between. I try to make an interesting, and/or attractive image from what i see around me, not just what would be expected, but also subjects that would be seen boring, mundane, or ugly by many. But they all have an interest as art photography. I have also spent nearly twenty years working as a life model, then the human figure in art is very important to me, and is something i try to bring into my work at times.
